Rider Training Courses

PRIVATE TUITION

Private tuition is available by way of INDIVIDUAL TRAINING COURSES. Usually 3 hours in length, these courses are presented in a one-on-one situation and assist to prepare riders for their Learner or Provisional course, OR to give a rider of any experience level the opportunity to improve their riding skills and be safer on the road. This course is most suitable for riders returning to motorcycling after lengthy absences or for those riders who simply want to be safer and gain more confidence on the road. Remember, we can all improve our skills if we practice.

The PRIVATE TUITION or INDIVIDUAL TRAINING COURSE will assist:

  • Novice riders to prepare for the RTA Pre-Leaner Course
  • Learner riders to prepare for the RTA Pre-Provisional course
  • Experienced riders who want to expand their skills
    (Advanced private tuition)

The training is 'one-on-one' - focusing on 'your needs only'. The training takes place mostly on our training range but if required includes some 'on road' time where the focus is on roadcraft, that is, your safety on the road. Our experienced instructors will vary the content of this course to meet your individual needs ranging from novice rider to experienced rider.

HIRE BIKES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS STYLE OF TRAINING

REFRESHER COURSES

The latest statistics relating to motorcyclist road trauma clearly reveals that the highest risk category of injuries and death occur to mature aged riders with limited or no formal training; who predominantly ride socially; particularly on weekends; on rural roads; where curves are prevalent. Riders who meet this criteria are the most vulnerable of all riders. The remedy lies in the development of skills through training. That's where WHEEL-SKILLS can help you!
Refresher Courses can be in a group situation or they can be conducted in a 'One-on-One' situation as described under the heading 'Private Tuition'

DEFENSIVE & ADVANCED RIDING COURSES

These courses are not about road racing, they are about developing 'road' riding skills that could one day save your life. Courses are suitable for novice to veteran riders & focus on skills development to avoid road crashes including braking, cornering, slow speed manoeuvring skills, carrying/being a pillion. This course is about your safety.

We offer two types of Advanced or Low-Risk Riding Courses. Firstly, the training can be taken on an individual basis, or in a small group, which will allow the Instructor and trainees to work on various skills development together, both on the training range and on the road. The focus for this training can be the development of those specific skills that you wish to develop. The duration of this type of course is usually 3 to 4 hours.

Alternatively, you might wish to book into a group course or arrange with us to conduct your own group course exclusively for your Club or organization i.e. Ulysses, Harley Owner’s Group, American Motorcycle Club etc.

Group courses are normally conducted using a mix of training between circuit and public roads and can be conducted at various locations throughout the State.

Both the Individual advanced training and the group advanced courses focus on developing safe riding skills, including: advanced riding techniques and bike control, cornering, braking, obstacle avoidance, riding posture, tyre information, and suspension set up.
